I'm Maddy Casey and I work from my printmaking studio in the West Country. I'm a self-taught printmaker working exclusively with hand-printed linocuts. I specialise in bespoke monochrome animal portraits and images of wildlife and nature. I take commissions as well as selling open edition and limited edition prints in my shop.
My prints are all created by hand and printed using traditional methods. The image is carved into special lino blocks using small chisels. The carved lino is then inked up with a roller and the image is hand-burnished onto paper by applying pressure with a wooden spoon or a heavy glass baren. This method produces smooth, high contrast images on paper and I just love the striking prints and depth of colour it creates. I use handmade Japanese washi papers and non-toxic vegetable oil inks. All my packaging is plastic-free and the backing boards and envelopes are made from recycled card.
